Butcher and Santini can both be send down so I think the competition is between them. Ultimately they'll all get to play once you get people getting banged up.

I get from the business side of things sending down the waiver ineligible guys but is anyone going to be that upset if we lose Lovejoy or Prout...

I know I should just get over the Lovejoy thing because there's no way he won't make the team...but grrrrrrr

I'd be curious to know if Hynes is actually considering 1C duties for Hischier

I think they will still keep hischier away from the 1st line to start the season but he may force his way up later on.

I think if they feel Johanson can't handle it they will go with henrique or zacha, they said prior including hynes that he will be on 2nd or 3rd line but that was before zajac went down

He may get PP1 time

Right? Everyone here s way to complacent with Lovejoy. Guys a plug, and if he plays the same minutes as last year, he will have the same results (or worse as he''s on the decline) My Favourite D-roster:

I think we do need all kinds of players. and we need muscle on the backline .

Prout fits this role .If he can keep his play up. he looks slimmer.

Bratt might make the team but I think he gets returned to juniors before he burns a year off his contract.
Hischier has looked great he has great vision and his defense has been very good hope they start him on the 3rd line and ease him into the NHL because this is only preseason.
Butcher looks very comfortable think he makes the team out of camp.

relieved to see things trending in the right direction with Hischier, Zacha, Butcher, Mueller.. and pleasant surprises in Bratt and even Blandisi. yay for a future.

what will we do with Boyle though?

This is pretty much exactly what I have at the moment, with Stafford and Noesen maybe swapping.

Curious to see if Bratt actually makes it. He's really surprising people and with guys like McLeod and Quennville not making a super strong case for making the team right now, it seems the path is there. Jimmy Hayes could be the sort of x factor there after a much better second preseason game.

I love Nico's game. he's doing well, but I highly doubt he gets top6 right off the bat. Yes, Hynes said that the way Nico is playing he will get more responsibilities. That does not mean he's getting top6. He's playing preseason..... 2 pre-season games...... and everyone is jumping the gun by thinking he's at superstar/elite level to jump into the NHL and take on the responsibilities of a 1c or 2c? Let me repeat.... 2 PRE-SEASON. We should curb our expectations or we'll just get hurt and then find someone else to aim our frustrations on when its doesn't work out.
I'd like him to be there, but not at the cost of his development.

Bratt has been a beast.... but I think when all is said and done, it's a numbers game and he will be the last cut to be sent back to juniors. No point bringing him up where he can get hurt or not have enough playing time to really develop into the forward management sees him being. Hayes is reliable and he might even get a contract. this will give the devils a proven RW that can take pressure off the young forwards and allow the prospects time to develop in their respective leagues.

It's too early to even determine how the lines will play out. Below you can see that it can fluctuate either way.

With such erratic line options, I doubt lot of the youngsters make the cut. Look at McLeod. Majority of the fans here penciled him in as a lock on the 3rd. Same thing with Speers. Like I said, when all is said and done, Hayes will get the look so the prospects can develop some. And def not having Hischier start at the top two center spots to start the season. maybe he earns it as the season goes on, but as of now, NO.
